About Deux Classical Vocal Duo
Ms. Jarrell Johnson and Ms. Malek made their official debut as Deux Classical Vocal Duo in the fall of 2017, and since that time have sung together in numerous concerts throughout South Texas and beyond, including collaborations with members of the Austin Baroque Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony, and Sonido Barroco, and as featured singers for Houston Early Music, Musica Sacra San Antonio, the San Antonio Choral Society, the American Guild of Organists, Musical Offerings, Musical Bridges Around the World, and the Tuesday Musical Club of San Antonio, among others. They have appeared on the Artist Series at the Texoma NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Conference, have been regularly featured artists on Texas Public Radio, and their recent Christmas album, Christus Natus Est, was released on Centaur Records through Naxos in 2022. Deux brings their audiences a variety of historical repertoire from early sacred motets and baroque cantatas to 19th century art song and opera, as well as contemporary commissioned works. Deux is available for formal concerts, lecture-recitals, house concerts, special events, sacred music programs, educational and community programs, master classes, and career talks to young performers.

Angela Malek has enjoyed an international career as a coloratura soprano. She studied voice at Baylor University, Indiana University, and the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland as a Rotary Scholar, where she sang baroque opera with the Basel Opera Theater and recorded for Swiss National Radio. As a young professional in Minneapolis, she recorded with Dale Warland, sang roles with the baroque opera Ex Machina, and frequently appeared with local orchestras and choirs. In 1999 she returned to Europe and for ten years sang opera and concerts. Presently she lives in San Antonio, where she appears regionally as a soloist.
Crystal Jarrell Johnson is a two-time regional finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and holds degrees in voice from Indiana University and Abilene Christian University. She is an alumna of the young artist programs of San Diego Opera, Nashville Opera, Utah Festival Opera and Indianapolis Opera. Having appeared as a soloist with symphony orchestras and opera companies around the country, she now resides in San Antonio, Texas. She is on the voice faculty at University of Texas at San Antonio and appears regularly as a soloist with various musical organizations around the region.
